Being Honest About Your Opinions

One topic I am trying to stay away from, mostly because I am not a politician and do not know enough about it to be honest, is politics, but I will say I really like it when the Democrats and Republicans stop fighting and try to get along.  For example I was proud of our Senator Lindsay Graham for standing up to applaud President Obama at one of his speeches.  That not only warmed my heart but impressed me.  As many of you know I support President Obama, and I also support anyone who is Commander in Chief of this great country.  I also happen to like him.  I also happen to like our South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham.
This is why I am too conservative for my ultra liberal friends and way too liberal for my conservative friends.  I think they call it center left our something.  LOL.
I said in a recent article about the Holocaust, that there is nothing wrong with socialism.  I wanted to add something to that, but did not get a chance to.  What I meant was any great nation like the United States should have both a fractional socialistic factor, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, schools, libraries, etc. in combination with capitalism.  Why?  Because we are a merchant society.  I think everyone has a right to have the freedom to make money honestly.  I also think that some people cannot support themselves or afford doctors and medicine or even food without government assistance, and that will always be the case.  So, I hope this clears up any misgivings about anything I may have posted earlier.
I do agree with the age long Democratic philosophy that it is only fair for the rich to pay more taxes, etc., which is why I am a Democrat and for other policies as well, which I will not discuss at this time.
I also believe strongly that one should be able to say what one thinks without being afraid to be unpopular or whatnot.  Sometimes I am tempted to just agree with people to omit any confrontation.  I think this is only necessary with truly volatile people where you cannot rock the boat.  However, I find that if I stifle my opinions to please others, I am not being true to myself.  Like the old quote, "to thine own self be true."

  1. Hi Leslie,
We don't know eachother but your call for honest opinions beckons me to respond to your honesty. As there are many who can say it better than I, I encourage you to take a look at Zeitgeist on YouTube and/or see THRIVE. Wether you believe them or not at least you'll have more info on the political scenne in THE Untied Skates of Aremica. I'm interested in your afterviewing feedback.

    Sincerely,
    Kenneth
